In the 2024 season American Cruise Lines is fielding five riverboats on the Columbia and Snake rivers April through early November and two small ships in Puget Sound and Alaska.

The Columbia and Snake rivers fleet includes three modern riverboats and two classic paddlewheelers. American Song, American Harmony and American West are already cruising, and American Jazz and American Pride begin this week. The vessels accommodate 100 to 180 passengers in 100% outside accommodations with private balconies.

Six- to 16-day itineraries

The six- to 16-day itineraries offer experiences such as guided tours through national parks, visits to Mount St. Helens and Multnomah Falls and jet boat rides and flightseeing adventures in Hells Canyon.

Cruises also highlight the area’s natural beauty with views of flowering alpine meadows, desert canyons, snowcapped mountains and the coast of Astoria, where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean.

From national parks to Northwest pioneers

Itineraries include the new 16-day 'National Parks & Legendary Rivers,' blending Columbia and Snake rivers cruising with seven days of guided tours through Yellowstone, Glacier and Grand Teton national parks. Other choices include the classic nine-day 'Columbia & Snake Rivers,' six-day 'Highlights of the Columbia River' and 12-day 'Northwest Pioneers.'

Cruises sail in both directions, between Portland, Oregon, and Clarkston, Washington, with the 'National Parks & Legendary Rivers' itinerary operating between Portland and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Theme cruises

All the Columbia and Snake rivers cruises include enrichment and experiences highlighting the Lewis and Clark expedition, but American Cruise Lines also offers themed sailings such as nine-day Lewis and Clark cruises with additional experts and a deeper historical focus.

Nine-day 'Vineyard Cruises' showcase regional vineyards and are led by wine connoisseurs with tastings, pairings and culinary demonstrations.
