The Joint Arctic Search and Rescue Arena will follow up relevant findings from search and rescue exercises, and otherwise serve as a platform for sharing experiences and innovations, and create opportunity for new initiatives
The Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators' initiative for a collaborative network and platform of expedition lines and search and result entities met for the first time.

The Joint Arctic Search and Rescue Arena (JASA) will focus on solving identified challenges.

JASA is based on the need to establish a network that can follow up relevant findings from search and rescue exercises, and otherwise serve as a platform for sharing experiences and innovations, and create opportunity for new initiatives.

'JASA is a unique voluntary network where effective collaborative measures connected to Arctic search and rescue are achievable, since all members share the same goals and vision,' AECO Executive Director Frigg Jørgensen said.

Since 2016 AECO has collaborated with Arctic search and rescue entities to enhance safety in Arctic expedition cruise operations. The work has been done through joint exercises, training, workshops, meetings, information exchange, projects and more.

JASA was born after this year's Joint Arctic SAR Event made it clear that a more systematic and results-oriented follow up on findings and areas in need of improvement is necessary.

JASA participants include the Canadian, Icelandic, Norwegian and US coast guards, the Faro Island Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (VØRN), Joint Rescue Coordination Center Norway and representatives from AECO's secretariat and membership.
