Costa Concordia’s Filipino crew get $2m payout

Some 281 Filipino crew members from Costa Concordia received a total of $2.048m for lost wages and personal effects, the Manila Standard Today reports.

The benefits were paid five days after the seafarers filed their claims the week following the Jan. 13 capsize, according to Philippines Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, the paper said.

Baldoz said checks ranged from $553 to $12,610, with the average claim $7,000.

The payouts fall under a national labor conciliation-mediation agreement.
